Steps to a “Hell Yes” Goal
Are you like me and get excited about an idea and want to instantly integrate it into your life? You imagine all the ways your life will somehow be better once you have it? It’s like a self-discovery version of “shiny object syndrome.”
Remember, i think you’re already a perfect, wonderful, gorgeous human the way you are. However, if there is something that has resonated in the first season of “In With…The Podcast,” and you’re interested in integrating into your life/leadership in a sustainable way, I’m here to help!
As referenced in Episode 11 of the pod, below are steps you can take to turn your inspiration into something more sustainable. Something that makes you say, “Hell yes,” when you look at it.
Step 1: Narrow your focus
What particular topic or episode was especially relevant to you?
What is it about that topic that is resonating with you?
When you think about that topic, what doesn’t feel like it’s working right now?
What would feel better?
What outcomes would you notice in your life if you changed things up?
What’s the biggest thing preventing you from having that?
Step 2 - Look in the crystal ball
When you imagine yourself putting energy into this area, what is your end goal?
What would be the most gold-star ideal outcome you could imagine? (Maybe it even feels a little unattainable.)
What would be the tiniest outcome that could happen?
Now goldilocks it…What’s a manageable outcome you could create between those two extremes?
IMPORTANT: What could success look like in that area? How will you know you created that outcome?
Step 3 - Let’s set a date
When would you like that thing to happen?
What is a reasonable timeline for this outcome to occur?
What milestones will keep you on track with this timeline?
Step 4 - First step!
What’s the first step you will take to start down the path toward your goal?
When will you take it?
What might you need to set you up for success with this first step?
Step 5 - Find your support
What do you need to be supported as you head down this path?
What accountability might you need?
What might trip you up?
What will you do when you’re feeling uninspired to keep going?
Step 6: Write it down!
Seriously. Write it the f down. I don’t care where. Get it out of your head and onto paper - physical or digital.
Step 7: Reflect and Review
Set a schedule for checking in on your goal.
How often will you check in?
What does your reflection and review process look like?
What will you do with your learnings?
What might get in the way of reflecting and reviewing your goal?
Step 8: Be a badass
So much self-awareness is created as a result of this work. Envisioning your desired outcomes, setting an intention, understanding what might get in your way and taking time to reflect and make course corrections is a valuable skill. It flexes your “strategic thinking” muscles. It helps you better understand yourself in relation to people in your life. It allows you peel away your bullshit and discover the badass you are at your core.
Cheers to you and your next steps!
